There are stories that you write, and stories that write you. For me, tattoos have always been both. Each one marks a season, a lesson, a storm survived. They’re not just art on skin—they’re coordinates on the map of who I’ve become. The penmanship of those I love. The reminders of the words I needed most when life felt like chaos.
When I wrote Nomad, I had my mother write the word across my wrist—a tribute to the faith journey that doesn’t always have a destination.
When I wrote I Cry In Corners, I added a few more pieces—outlined reminders that my feelings aren’t facts, they’re indicators pointing me back to truth. And now, Still Waters Don’t Make Saints has given me something new—an origami boat, the one that’s become the heartbeat of this book. It reminds me that peace isn’t the absence of storms, it’s the presence of God in the middle of them.
So this time, I wanted to share that part of my story with you. I designed a set of Tattoo Flash prints inspired by the imagery of Still Waters: the storm clouds, the lighthouse, the anchor, and the little paper boats that keep showing up in my story—and maybe in yours too.
Each symbol is a small piece of a bigger truth:
-
The anchor reminds us that hope holds steady even when we don’t.
-
The lightning reminds us that revelation often strikes in the dark.
-
The boat reminds us that we’re meant to float, not drown.
-
And the lighthouse reminds us that light doesn’t have to move to guide you—it just has to shine.
