Before Saul ever failed publicly, he compromised privately.

Israel’s first king was chosen not because he was perfect, but because the people wanted a leader they could see—someone who looked the part. And Saul? He had the look. The stature. The charisma. But what he lacked was the one thing that matters most to God: obedience.
